As reported by GOAL, Fernandes set up Bernardo Silva with a silky pass for the game's opener before being on the receiving end of a Ruben Neves assist to stretch Portugal's lead.

He put the icing on the cake in stoppage time, scoring his second of the game and Portugal's third. But he could have netted a hat trick if he had been a little decisive in front of the goal.

Fernandes's missed chance

The 28-year-old was put through on goal by captain Ronaldo. With a clear pathway to stretch the lead, Fernandes went for the spectacular instead of precision as he wasted a glorious opportunity with an audacious lob, per Eurosport.

Unfortunately, his effort missed the goal by a whisker, denying Cristiano the assist his acrobatic pass deserved.
