BoxingZakhele Lepasa Pays Tribute to Clive Barker With Bafana Bafana Goal Celebration
- Bafana Bafana beat Morocco 2-1 in their final Africa Cup of Nations Group K qualifier
- Zakhele Lepasa paid tribute to Clive Barker by performing his iconic celebration after scoring
- Former Bafana Bafana manager Barker was the only coach to lead the side to AFCON glory
Bafana Bafana have paid tribute to former coach Clive Barker in the best possible way.
Not only did South Africa beat Morocco in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, but the manner in which they did was also reminiscent of the team coached by The Dog.
Bafana beat The Atlas Lions 2-1 to top Group K, thanks to an own goal by the Moroccan keeper and a Zakhele Lepasa close-range finish.
It was Lepasa’s celebration which got people thinking about the former coach. Lepasa ran with his arms outstretched to mark his goal, mimicking Barker’s trademark flying celebration.
Barker was known for running up and down the touchline with his arms outstretched whenever Bafana scored.
Sadly, as News24 reported, Barker passed away recently after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).
Lepasa’s goal and Bafana’s performance honoured his memory, and even social media couldn’t help but notice how Bafana upped their game in memory of their former mentor.
Here’s how social media reacted to Lepasa’s tribute.
@Man_Dzu101:
“Bafana Bafana has won. The spirit of Legendary Clive Barker was alive today.”
@MicahDaMusic:
“That Clive Barker celebration must tell you something. Well done Lepasa. The real Bafana Bafana is back.”
@sahil_e:
“THIS WAS FOR YOU CLIVE BARKER. Super proud of the boys for pulling an absolutely huge feat!”
@Cellular_jnr:
“The spirit of Legendary Clive Barker was alive today where he made history back in 1996…Bafana Bafana are playing beautifully today!”
@tsheko2020:
“Bafana Bafana are honouring Clive Barker with a well-deserved victory against well-established Morocco. May his soul continue to rest in peace.”

UFCBafana score through hilarious blunder
Bafana Bafana beat Morocco in the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, partly thanks to an embarrassing mistake by The Atlas Lions’ keeper.
South Africa’s goal didn’t come against the run of play, but it did come out of a blunder by Munir Mohamedi.
The Moroccan second-choice keeper attempted to catch the ball from a routine Tau cross, but someone fumbled the ball, which then rolled into the back of the net, Sports Brief reported.
