Cape Town Spurs are heading to the DStv Premiership.
The side from the Western Cape secured promotion with a victory over Maritzburg United in the final promotion playoff game.
Going into the final game, Spurs led the standings with nine points while Maritzburg were second with six points.
The KZN side needed to beat Shaun Bartlett’s side to secure their spot in South Africa’s top flight. Spurs, on the other hand, just needed a draw.
Cape Town got that single point as they drew with Maritzburg in the final game of the mini-tournament, with the match ending 0-0. The game proved a tense affair, as both sides didn’t want to make any costly errors.
While there were plenty of tackles and players going down, there was very little goalmouth action. Both sides had 11 shots in total, but only one of those was on target for Spurs, while Maritzburg had no shots on target.
The KZN side will join Marumo Gallants in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, while Spurs join Polokwane City as the two sides go up to the Premiership.
