  • Emmanuel Macron has promised to intervene in the ongoing Kylian Mbappe transfer saga
  • The French president played an instrumental role in Mbappe signing his current deal with PSG
  • The 24-year-old has already communicated to the club his decision to leave next summer

French President Emmanuel Macron has made a solemn vow concerning the future of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

Macron's vow follows Mbappe's formal notification to PSG about his decision not to activate his one-year contract extension clause, thereby allowing him to potentially leave the Parc des Princes on a free transfer in 2024.

As reported by GOAL, PSG now faces the dilemma of letting Mbappe depart for a fee this summer or risk him leaving for free, an option the French champions are reluctant to entertain.

This development has reignited Real Madrid's interest in the 24-year-old forward, with reports indicating that Los Blancos are prepared to make a significant financial investment to acquire their long-term target, especially after Mbappe rejected them previously.

In response to the ongoing transfer saga, the French leader has hinted at potential intervention in an effort to persuade Mbappe to consider extending his stay in Paris.

"I don't know what's happening with Kylian, but I will push for him to stay," Macron said, as quoted by MadridZone via RMC Sport.

Mbappe's potential destinations

Sports Brief looks at several potential moves the French forward could consider if he leaves the French capital.

Kylian Mbappe could be on the move this summer, following reports indicating that has written a letter informing the club he would not be signing a new contract.

The 24-year-old, who was signed as a teenager from Monaco in 2018 for a world record fee of £160 million in 2018, will see his current deal expire next year.

Mbappe hands PSG transfer blow

In an earlier publication, Sports Brief reported on Kylian Mbappe telling Paris Saint-Germain that he would not be taking up an option to extend his contract until 2025.

The 24-year-old France striker's current deal expires at the end of next season, with the option of another year.

The 2018 World Cup winner sent a formal letter to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday afternoon. In this letter, Mbappe reportedly informed the Parisians that he will not, under any circumstances, be activating the option in his contract for a further year until 2025.
