FootballToni Kroos Aims Brutal Dig at Eden Hazard After Real Madrid Sign Bellingham for Top Dollar
- Jude Bellingham has successfully completed a sensational transfer to Real Madrid
- He becomes Madrid's second most expensive signing after Eden Hazard
- German midfielder, Toni Kroos couldn't help but draw comparisons between Bellingham's move to Los Blancos and Hazard's tenure at the club
Toni Kroos has expressed his thoughts on Jude Bellingham's lucrative transfer to Real Madrid, while subtly criticising his former teammate, Eden Hazard.
Known for his frankness, Kroos made it clear that he had no sympathy for Hazard, whose time at Los Blancos was marred by recurring injuries.
According to talkSPORT, the German midfielder implied that Hazard had displayed a lackadaisical approach to his career, suggesting that he was not remorseful about the challenges the Belgian faced.
Hazard, who joined Real Madrid as their record signing in 2019, struggled to meet high expectations, managing only 76 appearances over four seasons.
Despite his underwhelming tenure, the 32-year-old did achieve a respectable trophy collection, including the Champions League, La Liga, and the FIFA Club World Cup, per Transfermarkt.
Hazard's departure was confirmed at the end of the previous season. As news circulated about Bellingham's imminent move to the Spanish capital, Kroos drew a comparison between the two situations, emphasizing the contrasting paths of the two players.
"We had another player who came for a lot of money and basically let his career die. It was a lot of money, I think everyone would say that wasn't a good transfer. But let's be positive," Kroos said, as quoted by SportBIBLE.
Bellingham joins Madrid
While Real Madrid offloaded Hazard at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, the Spanish giants confirmed the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund on a six-year deal on Wednesday, with the English international costing over 100 million euros ($108 million), Sports Brief reported.

FootballGerman side Dortmund said an agreement for the 19-year-old had been reached last week with Madrid, worth 103 million euros, plus up to 30 percent of that fee in bonuses.
Bellingham's arrival continues Real Madrid's regeneration of their midfield. He joins young French duo, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni to help phase out veterans Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Kroos: No sympathy for Hazard
Earlier, Sports Brief also reported that German legend Toni Kroos has said that he has no sympathy for Eden Hazard’s situation at Real Madrid.
Hazard’s stay at Madrid has been filled with disappointments, as the 31-year-old winger has struggled with injuries and loss of form in his three years with Los Blancos.
The 32-year-old has only made ten appearances for Real Madrid in the latest season, with six of them in La Liga, before he was released at the end of the campaign.
