- He chose a rap song for his initiation and impressed his new teammates
- It was his second call-up as injury denied him a chance to feature for Les Bleus in March
Chelsea defender, Wesley Fofana has finally got his chance to link up with the France national team, and he left an impression during his initiation.
Fofana has spent the past years in the heart of the U-21 team alongside club teammate Benoit Badiashile, but his move to London and his performances have opened the door to the senior team for him.
He is expected to debut in one of the games against Gibraltar or Greece in the UEFA European Championship 2024 qualifiers.
According to Evening Standard, he withdrew from the squad for his first call-up in March due to a hamstring injury he suffered during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Everton.
Fofana shows off rap skills
It is customary for first-timers in the national team camp to take up an activity during their introduction, and the Chelsea star chose a rap song.
As seen in a video shared on Twitter by the Official French Team, he held a bottle close to his mouth to mimic a microphone. He delivered and was rewarded with applause at the end.
His soon-to-be Chelsea teammate, Christopher Nkunku appeared unimpressed during the show, but soaked it in at the end and applauded him.
Nkunku will be the fourth French player to join the Blues in a year after Fofana, Badiashile, and right-back Malo Gusto, who joined the team in January but was immediately loaned back to Olympique Lyonnais.
Fofana’s emotional message to James
Sports Brief reported that Fofana sent emotional message to Reece James after the England international suffered an injury that ruled him out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
