Black Stars winger, Joseph Paintsil has disclosed that the team is poised to pick one of the tickets to the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.

Ghana will face Madagascar on Sunday, June 18, 2023, in the penultimate AFCON qualifier with a place at the tournament at stake.

The Group E leaders need just a point to secure their qualification to AFCON 2023 but will have Madagascar to deal with in Antananarivo.

Paintsil, who was in phenomenal form for Genk in the just ended season, believes his teammates are ready for the crucial encounter.

"With their mentality, they are really ready for it and we always talk about it, their full focus is on the game. The past is the past and they are always focused on the game. I think they are really ready to give their all for the fans and for Ghanaians," he said at a press conference on Tuesday, as quoted by Ghanasoccernet.

The four-time African champions are chasing their first-ever AFCON success since last winning the tournament in 1982.

The team has been close three times, losing to Ivory Coast twice and Egypt once in the last forty years, as reported by ESPN.

Hughton reacts to injuries in camp

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton has opened up on the growing injury situation in camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.

Defender Gideon Mensah became the latest player to pull out of the squad after suffering an injury during Auxerre's final game of the season.

He joins Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams and RC Strasbourg centre-back Alexander Djiku as players ruled out of the penultimate AFCON qualifier.

Partey celebrates 30th birthday

Players of the Black Stars joined teammate Thomas Partey to celebrate his 30th birthday.

The Arsenal star turned 30 on June 13, 2023, and was presented with a cake by the management of the Black Stars.

In a video shared on social media, Partey is seen with his teammates as he celebrated a new milestone in his life.
