Chelsea have reportedly put up 12 players for sale as the club embarks on a massive summer rebuild.

The Blues are keen to strengthen their squad this summer after an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign that saw them end the season without a trophy.

To put Chelsea's disastrous season into perspective, the club registered their lowest points tally in their Premier League history.

The west Londoners settled for a 12th-place finish with a paltry 44 points in a campaign that saw them have three different managers.

Mauricio Pochettino's summer plan

Former Tottenham boss Pochettino has since taken charge at Stamford Bridge, with the Argentine succeeding Graham Potter, who was sacked in February.

According to Sportbible, Poch appears set to have a busy transfer window that will see him axe a number of players.

The move is aimed at Chelsea having their books balanced, with the exits also paving the way for new signings.

Pochettino is understood to have drawn his summer transfer wishlist, with the signing of a new goalkeeper to replace Edouard Mendy and Kepa a top priority.

12 players set for exit

Metro UK reports the former Paris Saint-Germain boss has already sanctioned the sale of as many as 12 first-team players.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mateo Kovacic headline the long list of players who could depart Stamford Bridge, with the latter linked with a sensational move to Manchester City.

N'Golo Kante is on the verge of moving to Saudi Arabia, while Mason Mount could join rivals Manchester United this summer.

The duo of Kai Havertz and Conor Gallagher is also thought to be deemed surplus to requirements.

Fortunately for Havertz, he will not be short of options, with reports claiming Real Madrid are leading the hunt for his services.

Star wingers Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, as well as goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, have also been linked with a possible exit.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is thought to be on his way to the Serie A, with the trio of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Nathan Baxter and Ian Maatsen completing the 12-man list.

What Chelsea needs to revive

A brace from Rodrygo on April 18 condemned Chelsea to exit the UEFA Champions League, as the struggling club failed to contain Real Madrid's march to an eleventh semi-final in 13 years.

The English club are now set to sit out of European football until at least 2025, but as Sports Brief has analysed, this might be just what the club needs to find its feet amid a period of turmoil.

With the season effectively done and dusted - and with the Blues trophy-less in all competitions - the ownership must take certain steps to ensure Chelsea recovers from an all-time low.
