FootballTransfer Update: What Is Real Madrid’s Stance on Kylian Mbappe’s Situation at PSG?
- Kylian Mbappe could be leaving PSG this summer, having informed the club that he will not extend his contract
- The Frenchman has been on the radar of Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are surprised by the player's latest situation
- Several top clubs will now jostle for the striker, but he is the only one who can decide where to go next
Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappe could be available this summer amid reports that he will not renew his contract with the French club.
The Parisians would be unwilling to let the forward leave as a free agent, meaning he could be sold this summer.
It has been gathered that the 24-year-old notified the club that he would not activate a 2025 contract option.
Mbappe’s contract with PSG
A young Mbappe initially joined PSG on loan from Monaco in 2017, and following his superlative performances, he completed a full transfer to the club for around €145 million plus €35 million in add-ons.
That saw him become the most expensive teenager ever, the most expensive transfer ever within a domestic league, and potentially the second most expensive player ever, behind teammate Neymar, as per Planet Football.
In May 2021, despite speculation of a possible move to Real Madrid, Mbappe extended his deal to 2025, prompting La Liga officials to file an official complaint to UEFA.
It was gathered that Mbappe had to personally reach out to Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez, telling him he would not be moving to the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid’s position on Mbappe
Los Blancos are still willing to land the striker, who many have described as the best in the world.
Spanish outlet Marca claims that the player's current status is keenly monitored, but he was not in their initial plans for the summer.
Fran Garcia, Brahim Diaz, and Jude Bellingham are reportedly arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, with the latter slated to be their Galacticos' signing of the summer.
Transfers: Exploring Marco Asensio's potential summer destinations
FootballMadrid had been waiting for 2024 to re-activate their bid for Mbappe, who would be free by then.
Now they will hope that the player cooperates with the club, as he is the only one who could make such a blockbuster transfer happen this summer.
Following the exit of Karim Benzema from the club, Real Madrid are desperately in search of a top striker, but Mbappe starts on the right most times – a position already occupied by Vinicius Junior.
If Mbappe joins the club, the manager will need to strategise a formation to facilitate a line-up that includes both the Brazilian and the Frenchman.
