- Kylian Mbappe's current deal expires at the end of next season
- Real Madrid are said to be in pole position to sign the Frenchman this summer
Kylian Mbappe told Paris Saint-Germain on Monday that he would not be taking up an option to extend his contract until 2025.
The 24-year-old France striker's current deal expires at the end of next season, with the option of another year.
According to French sports daily L'Equipe, the 2018 World Cup winner sent a formal letter to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday afternoon.
In this letter, Mbappe reportedly informed the Parisians that he will not, under any circumstances, be activating the option in his contract for a further year until 2025.
If he does not sign, the Ligue 1 champions risk losing him for nothing in a year, so they could sell him this summer rather than miss out on a windfall for one of the world's best players.
Mbappe's decision not to renew is a fresh blow to PSG following the loss of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami.
His move comes a little over a year since he snubbed Real Madrid by signing a surprise extension to his contract to remain at the Parc des Princes.
Sport Bible reported that Real Madrid would again be chief among Mbappe's suitors.
A questionable project at PSG
Diario AS reported that the situation at the Parc des Princes is quite different from what Manchester City is currently experiencing.
Mbappe was promised a winning team with Luis Campos, architect at Monaco, where the 2018 World Cup winner developed. It has been another disappointing year for PSG.
PSG lost to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Messi won’t be there next season, and there are doubts about Neymar’s future at the club.
