South African football has lost another much-loved coach.
The local football fraternity was still mourning the death of Clive Barker when news broke that Mike Lukhubene had also passed away.
As noted by News24, the former Chippa United and Royal AM manager was shot dead after attending the Coke Cup tournament in Khayelitsha.
According to the police report, Lukhubene and another individual both sustained gunshot wounds to their heads and were declared dead at the scene. Lukhubene was believed to have been walking back to his car when the incident happened, but no motive for the murder is yet known.
The former Royal AM boss recently attended the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs in Pietermaritzburg and coached an amateur side in the Western Cape.
As noted by Far Post, SAFA Cape Town has since released a statement about the incident, offering its heartfelt condolences to the victims' families.
“We are devastated to have heard what transpired. This was immediately attended to by SAFA Cape Town Vice President Nomonde Ndyoko. The President was at the venue on the day and was already outside the venue when notified of the news," the statement read.
The organisation added that they believed the incident was unrelated to football matters but explained that investigations were still underway.
“We implore our football community not to share any information about the incident, including witness reports or images, out of respect for the families involved. And the pending investigations, which no doubt will be well underway by local authorities," the statement continued.

South African football experienced another dark day in its footballing history after the ABC Motsepe League playoff semi-finals.
KwaZulu-Natal’s Msinga United and North West’s Orbit College were contesting the second semi-final, but drama erupted after the game, Sports Brief reported.
Fans stormed the pitch after the game to confront the referee, but things turned sour. A security official fired a warning shot to try and disperse the crowd, but the angry supporters drew out firearms and fired shots of their own.
