FootballBernardo Silva Professes Love for Man City Teammate, Wishes He Were Portuguese
- Bernardo Silva is expected to start for Manchester City tonight in the Champions League final
- He has been one of the consistent performers this season and scored twice in the 4-0 win over Real Madrid
- The Portuguese rates one of his club teammates highly that he wishes he was from his country
Bernard Silva is a big fan of one of his Manchester City teammates, so much so that he wishes he is from his home country of Portugal.
Silva is expected to start on the right side of City’s attack in the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan later tonight at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
He has been pivotal to Pep Guardiola’s team this season in the domestic and European competitions. He has three goals and an assist in the UCL, including a brace in the 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the semi-final.
His work rate and versatility, which has seen him play even as a wing-back this season, are precious to the team and have relegated Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez to the bench.
Silva professes love for Stones
Guardiola has tweaked his team selection and tactics this season, and it has helped usurp Arsenal from the top of the league table and made them a dominant force in Europe.
One of the beneficiaries of the system is English defender John Stones, who has played as a hybrid between a centre-half and a midfielder, giving City extra body in midfield and defence. Silva picked him when asked which English player he wished was Portuguese.
“I’d love if John Stones was Portuguese. I love him as a player. I’m a big fan of John,” he told ESPN UK.
Some fans believe he picked Stones because he would love to see a partnership of the Englishman and Ruben Dias in the national team.

Silva’s angry reaction to Fernandes
While Silva wishes for a player to be Portuguese, he probably wishes another compatriot is not with his telling reaction during the FA Cup final.
Sports Brief reported that Silva shoved Bruno Fernandes after the Manchester United captain approached him to calm him after Paul Tierney awarded a contentious penalty to the Red Devils.
