Lionel Messi cracked up after learning that his new club Inter Miami are bottom of the Eastern Conference in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
This is according to Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero, who gave an interesting account of how his interaction with his long-time friend went down.
Messi, as reported extensively, turned down a move to Saudi Arabia, instead opting to play for MLS franchise Inter Miami, which is partly owned by David Beckham.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will have an uphill task at Inter Miami, who have collected just 15 points from 16 games this season, a run that has seen the club lose 11 games.
As reported on SportBible, this wretched stat was made known to Messi by Aguero, and the former Paris Saint-Germain star had an interesting reaction.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Aguero narrated how the dialogue with Messi went, saying:
"I spoke to Messi yesterday; I sent him a message with a screenshot of the Eastern Conference standings and I said: 'Your team is behind! You have to move up to 8th/9th!'"
"Messi cracked up. He said, 'We have to make the play-offs!'"
Inter Miami’s history
Founded in 2018, Inter Miami officially began competing in the MLS in 2020.
In the first three seasons, the club finished in 19th, 20th, and 12th respectively, which is underwhelming by Messi’s lofty standards.
The Argentine will not mind, however, as he suggested in an interview released on Wednesday that he wanted to play in a league that did not have too much pressure.

Football"It's true that I had offers from another European team, but I didn't even think about it because in Europe, my idea was only to go to Barcelona," Messi said.
"After winning the World Cup and not being able to go to Barca, it's time to go to MLS to live football in a different way and enjoy my day-to-day life more.
"Obviously with the same responsibility and desire to win, and to do things well, but with more calm."
Miami star gets Messi tattoo
Sports Brief also reported on how Inter Miami star, Francisco Ranieri got Lionel Messi’s autograph tattooed on him.
The Argentine superstar granted one of the wishes of Inter Miami academy player, Francisco Ranieri, when they met during Argentina’s preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ranieri, who was starstruck after meeting Messi, got a tattoo of the veteran's autograph just hours after his idol had signed his arm.
