Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi visited the Ilorin General Hospital on June 8 to make cash donations to some of the patients on admission.
The former Liverpool player was received by the hospital's Chief Medical Director, Dr Bola Abdulkadir, and was taken to visit the various wards of the hospital, including being introduced to a female cancer patient in need of help.
After receiving a brief about the patient, Awoniyi was told the woman needed a complete dose of a particular treatment costing N107,000 each, after which he paid for her remaining four doses.
Another patient, who needed N5,000 to receive oxygen for one of her children, received over N100,000 from the former Liverpool forward, who also supported two elderly patients with similar amounts.
Sports Brief spoke exclusively with Awoniyi about his benevolence, with the Super Eagles strongman explaining that he would continue to support those in need or who were struggling with poverty.

"Where I am today is by the grace of God and I must give to those who need help in one way or the other, and that was why I went to the hospital. I won't stop helping people who are genuinely in need because I never thought I would be where I am now if not for God," he told Sports Brief.

Awoniyi, who was signed from Union Berlin last summer for a £17 million, explained how he had to start working as a bricklayer and later at the bakery so he could afford the basic football kit.
