Former Nigerian international, Finidi George has claimed he is still the first assistant coach of the Super Eagles, despite reports suggesting the Enyimba FC gaffer had been asked to leave by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
There was speculation recently that George was no longer with the Nigerian national team, with local media outlets reporting that head coach, Jose Peseiro had informed the NFF he wanted to pick his own assistant.
Coincidentally, the ex-Super Eagle was not present on the bench for the west African nation in their last outings against Guinea-Bissau, further fuelling the rumours.
According to the reports by Daily Post and Complete Sports, George stated he would rejoin the Super Eagles training camp ahead of their coming game.
George discusses Nigerian coaching role
"I’m still the first assistant to Jose Peseiro and will come next week. I think the camp opens for the players to come. And I think I’ll be there if things don’t get twisted. But first thing first, let me finish this duty with Enyimba, and if things go well, I will be in camp."
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Sierra Leone on Sunday, June 18, in their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game.

His strike made many fans remember his days as a professional football player when he scored many brilliant goals at the club level and also for the Nigerian national team - the Super Eagles.
George was a joy to watch on the pitch in years gone by, with his pace, power, team spirit, and goal-scoring skills helping him make an incredible move to Dutch giants, Ajax Amsterdam in 1993.
