FootballManchester United Make Decision on Mason Greenwood’s Comeback After Controversial Case
- Manchester United have reportedly decided to loan out embattled striker Mason Greenwood
- Greenwood remains suspended by the club after being arrested and charged in court last year
- The Red Devils are yet to conclude their own internal processes regarding the striker's return
Manchester United have reportedly resolved to send Mason Greenwood out on loan next season, despite his case being dropped by the courts in February this year.
Greenwood has been away from competitive action for more than 15 months after he was arrested and arraigned on the charges of sexual assault and coercive behaviour.
Greenwood was suspended indefinitely by the club, but after the Crown Prosecution Services dropped his case, it was thought he could make a quick comeback.
Manchester United opted against rushing the decision, promising to conduct their own internal investigations before providing a way forward.
It is now understood the club has decided to send the 21-year-old striker out on loan next season.
The Daily Mail reports that Spain, Italy, or Turkey have been identified as potential destinations. The other options include releasing Greenwood, should investigations reveal he brought the club into disrepute.
The striker's possible return has in the past been reported to be the cause of disharmony, especially among members of Manchester United's female team.
Sports Brief also reported that Serie A giants, AC Milan are understood to be among the clubs interested in Greenwood, who has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.
A chance to move abroad could offer him an opportunity to revitalise his career.
AC Milan will be in the market for new strikers, with the likes of Olivier Giroud approaching the end of his career, Zlatan Ibrahimovic having recently retired, and Divock Origi yet to impress fully.
