Thembinkosi Lorch has found himself in hot water once again with the law.

The Orlando Pirates midfielder appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and now faces more severe punishment in July.

As noted by Drum, Lorch has been found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The case was postponed to July for sentencing, where Lorch will find out his fate.

Why Lorch appeared in court?

The Pirates star was accused of assault by his ex-girlfriend, Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithiba, in September 2020.

As noted by EWN, Lorch was arrested after Mathithiba laid a charge at the Midrand Police Station. He was released on bail of R2 000.

The case was then provisionally withdrawn against Lorch until more investigations were done.

The allegations against Lorch

Mathithibala alleged that she was visiting Lorch at his home when he decided to leave her there and go out with a friend. Seeing that it was getting late, she messaged him and asked him to come home and return her car keys.

Mathithibala said that when Lorch came home, he became violent as they argued and started to strangle and beat her. She claimed she called for help, and his friend had to help her.

Why Lorch was found guilty?

As noted by News24, the state prosecutor said that the medical evidence supported the claims of Mathithibala.

The prosecutor also said that Lorch and his witness didn’t create a good impression in court and didn’t appear to be credible witnesses.
