Professional footballers live the high life, but sometimes it’s not as rosy as it seems.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star, Teko Modise has opened up on how he spent his money when he was earning big and how he regrets some of the decisions he made.
As noted by SuperSport.com, Modise revealed that he learnt the hard way when it came to spending money.
He earned big money at Orlando Pirates and then earned even more at Mamelodi Sundowns, never realising that, at some stage, the money would run out.
When he eventually stopped earning the big bucks, Modise scaled down his expenses and downgraded his lifestyle.
“I got a smaller apartment, I sold three of the four cars I had, and instead of spending R50 000 on sneakers, I would just get one pair,” The General explained.
He added that instead of buying a new car, he paid monthly for an Aston Martin because he didn’t know better.
“I had no business buying a car that cost me R22 000 a month. But the best education is experience. What I did taught me a lot about finances in general,” Modise added.
Modise lost friends afterwards
Dona added that once he trimmed his lifestyle down, he also lost friends.
"People started whispering that I no longer had the money, and as a result, I had just one friend left.”
