FootballHeartwarming As Real Madrid Players Bid Emotional Farewell to Benzema and 3 Others
- Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Mariano Diaz and Marco Asensio will leave Real Madrid this summer
- The quartet received a befitting send-off from their teammates
- In Madrid's final game of the season against Athletic Bilbao, Benzema scored his 354th and last goal for Los Blancos
Real Madrid bid an emotional farewell to its departing contingent of Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Mariano Diaz and Eden Hazard in their final game of the season against Athletic Bilbao.
Los Blancos opted to mutually terminate Hazard's contract, whose four-year stint at the Bernabeu had been marked by disappointment. The club did the same with Mariano Diaz, who only managed a bit-part role during his second spell at the club.
In relation to Benzema and Asensio, the pair decided against renewing their stay with the La Liga giants this season.
During Madrid's last game of the 2022-23 season, which only yielded the Copa del Rey trophy after missing out on the league and Champions League, all four players were given a proper send-off.
Turn by turn they were raised shoulder high as they fraternized with the rest of the squad one last time before they embark on new adventures away from the Spanish capital.
In the said game, Asensio and Benzema had the opportunity to don the all-white Madrid jersey for the final moment, with the latter scoring from the spot to seal a 1-1 draw for Carlo Ancelotti's men.
Unfortunately, Mariano Diaz and Hazard, who had played 392 minutes across all competitions this term, were not given a run-in by the gaffer.
But that did not stop them from receiving a befitting send-off from their soon-to-be ex-teammates.
