English referee, Anthony Taylor suffered abuse from Roma fans as he travelled home from Budapest in the wake of the Europa League final on Wednesday.

The game was eventually won by Sevilla, who had to edge Mourinho's charges via a penalty shootout to maintain their unblemished record in Europe's second-tier club competition, making it seven wins from seven finals, FN Futbol reports.

While Sevilla whisked away their seventh Europa League crown, Roma were seething in pain after agonizingly missing out on back-to-back European glory.

Fans of the Eternal City club took out their frustration on Taylor, harassing the Premier League referee by hurling expletives at him as he tried to make his way through the airport. His backpack was grabbed amid bottles being thrown at him and his family.

The attack from Roma's fanbase comes on the back of Jose Mourinho's explosive verbal attack on Taylor in what appears to be a parking lot, per Italian Football TV.

Taylor's controversial decisions

Taylor made a couple of controversial decisions during the game.

Sevilla were given a penalty by Taylor when Luis Ocampos was brought down by after a challenge in the box. He later changed his mind following a VAR review.

Shortly after, a Sevilla player handled the ball inside the box. Roma felt they should have received a penalty of their own, but the Premier League referee held his ground and dismissed the claims.

The tense encounter resulted in a total of 14 yellow cards being issued, and Mourinho criticised the referee in his post-game remarks.

Mourinho insults Anthony Taylor

In a related publication, Sports Brief reported that Jose Mourinho was spotted hurling obscenities at match referee Anthony Taylor after watching his AS Roma side lose the Europa League final to Sevilla on May 31.

Mourinho was far from happy with some of the decisions made by the English referee.

A video has now surfaced online of the Special One shouting expletives. Italian Football TV reports that the insults were directed at Taylor and his team.
