FootballCristiano Ronaldo Breaks Silence About Al Nassr Future After Ending Season Empty Handed
- Cristiano Ronaldo has cleared the air about his future
- The five-time Ballon d'Or winner joined Al-Nassr in a two-and-a-half-year deal said to total 400 million euros ($428 million)
- Despite failing to land silverware, he helped his side qualify for the Asian Champions League as a consolation
Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his future with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr amid speculations of being unhappy in the Gulf state.
Ronaldo's Saudi sojourn ended on a disappointing note after failing to inspire the Knights of Nahd to any silverware in his first season.
His Al-Nassr side finished runners-up to Al-Ittihad in the Saudi league while also falling short in the Saudi King's Cup and Super Cup. However, on a personal note, the 38-year-old notched 14 goals and provided two assists in 16 appearances.
He has since been linked with a return to Europe with the Saudi-backed Premier League side, Newcastle United, reportedly flirting with the idea of recruiting the services of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner ahead of their Champions League campaign next season, per Manchester Evening News.
But Ronaldo has debunked the rumours linking him away from Al-Nassr, suggesting he is happy with the Riyadh-based outfit.
"I'm happy here, I want to continue here, and I will continue here," the 38-year-old told SPL chat as quoted by TCR.
Meanwhile, he has been named in Roberto Martinez's Portugal squad ahead of the international break this month, where the Selecao will play Bosnia & Herzegovina on the 17th of June before squaring off against Iceland three days later.
Ronaldo injects swagger into Saudi league
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's first season in Saudi Arabia ended with a whimper, but with hundreds of millions in wages and unprecedented attention on Saudi football, he may not be the last megastar to grace the oil-rich kingdom.
The fireworks and euphoria that greeted Ronaldo's gala unveiling in January were in sharp contrast to the close of Al Nassr's season when the Portuguese sat out a 3-0 win against Al Fateh late on Wednesday.
Despite signing the five-time Ballon d'Or-winner in a two-and-a-half-year deal said to total 400 million euros ($428 million), Al Nassr finished second in the Saudi Pro League without any silverware, although they qualified for the Asian Champions League as a consolation.
