  • Dani Olmo looks set to continue in Germany despite transfer rumours
  • The RB Leipzig man was linked with a move away from the Red Bull Arena
  • Barcelona and Newcastle are now set to look for alternatives to Olmo

Barcelona and Newcastle United were among the clubs linked with RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo recently, but a summer transfer deal is no longer a possibility.

Latest reports from Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano confirmed both clubs have missed out on one of their left-wing targets, with the Spanish forward set to put pen to paper on a contract set to keep him in Germany until 2027.

According to Sky Germany, Olmo's new deal will keep him at RB Leipzig beyond this summer and also includes a future release clause.

His initial deal was due to expire in 2024, but Fabrizio Romano has stated this new contract will run until the summer in four years' time, with the release clause valued at almost £52 million.

While Barcelona and Newcastle now know how much a future deal for Olmo will cost, any switch this summer appears to be off the table.

This update may come as a surprise to many, as the Leipzig forward is a fantastic player and could really add something different to both teams’ attacking line.

Newcastle, Barcelona search for alternatives

Newcastle will have to look elsewhere and may look to one of Olmo’s teammates instead. The Premier League club have been linked with Dominik Szoboszlai, who plays a similar role.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have an option in Atletico’s Yannick Carrasco. The Belgian attacker is priced in the region of €15 mil.

Xavi is said to believe Carassco fits the current Barca project and has the requirements to create competition for current wingers, Ousmane Dembélé and Raphinha for a place in the starting 11.

Messi to Barcelona 'makes sense'

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported on Barcelona head coach, Xavi discussing Lionel Messi returning to Camp Nou and why the move 'makes a lot of sporting sense'.

The veteran swapped Catalonia for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 on the back of the club's financial situation, but has been linked with a potential return in the summer.

Despite bagging two Ligue 1 titles in two seasons, Messi is reportedly set to leave PSG in the coming weeks, with numerous leagues all attempting to lure him over.
