Morocco and Sevilla goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou has disclosed that confidence in his teammates is what inspired his performance in the penalty shootout victory over AS Roma.
Bounou saved two penalties as Sevilla defeated Roma 4-1 to secure their seventh Europa League title in Budapest on Wednesday night.
The Italians were denied in the game by the Moroccan goalkeeper after he made some brilliant saves in 120 minutes.
Argentina midfielder, Paulo Dybala opened the scoring in the 31st minute as the Romans went into the break with the lead, reported EuroNews.
However, Sevilla responded ten minutes after the break after a cross from Jesus Navas was turned into the net by Roma player Gianluca Mancini.
The game had to be settled from the spot, and the Moroccan World Cup star stole the show with saves to deny Mancini and Roger Ibanez.
”I really had confidence in my players scoring their penalties, when you feel that - You sort of set yourself free knowing you may stop one," Bounou said after the game, as quoted by Football Daily.
Sevilla have now won the Europa League seven times, becoming the first team to beat a Jose Mourinho-led team in the final of a European competition.
