FootballRonaldo less Al Nassr End Saudi Season in Style With Comprehensive 3:0 Victory
- Cristiano Ronaldo's absence did not take a negative toll on Al-Nassr
- Al-Nassr posted a comprehensive 3-0 win against Al Fateh on the final day of the Saudi Pro League
- The Riyadh-based club finished in the second position behind Al Ittihad
Al-Nassr closed the 2022-23 season with a resounding three-nil win against Al Fateh, finishing in second position.
A brace from club top scorer Anderson Talisca and Mohammed Maran gave Dinko Jelicic's men a perfect send-off to a season they came so close yet so far from ending their five-year wait for the Saudi top flight.
The build-up to the season finale was dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo's absence from the team's roster. However, Brazilian Anderson Talisca made sure the Portuguese's presence was not missed when he prodded home the game's opener after going past the goalkeeper just four minutes into the game.
Despite having the lion's share of ball possession, the visitors failed to find the much-need breakthrough their performance deserved. Ironically, it was Al Nassr who doubled their lead through Talisca six minutes after the hour mark, Sportstar reports
Shortly after, Mohammed Maran added misery to Al Fateh's woes when he scored the icing on the cake to cement their second position with 67 points, five points adrift table toppers Al Ittihad.
Elsewhere at the King Abdullah Stadium, newly-crowned Saudi champions Al Ittihad capped off a brilliant season with a 2-0 win against Al Ta'ee, thanks to Abderrazak Hamdallah and Helder Costa, according to Saudi Gazette.
Al-Nassr's title ambitions end
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr were left crestfallen as their quest to land the 2022-23 Saudi Pro League title ended after drawing with Al Etiffaq, with one game remaining.
