Noting the unsung heroes of Barcelona's La Liga title victory
FootballSergio Aguero Explains Why Busquets Is the Best Player in Spain This Season Ahead of Vinicius Jr
- Sergio Busquets has been named La Liga Player of the Year
- The 34-year-old has confirmed he will leave Barcelona this summer
- During his 15 seasons with La Blaugrana, Busquets made 722 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions
Sergio Aguero has picked outgoing Barcelona icon, Sergio Busquets as the best player in La Liga this season.
Busquets, who guided La Blaugrana to their first league triumph since 2019, has been named as the finest footballer in Spain's top flight this season by his former teammate.
Aguero opted for the defensive midfielder ahead of Real Madrid's zippy winger Vinicius Jr., which could spark a fiery debate among football faithful considering the latter's overall performance this season.
Despite the debate set to occur on the back of Aguero's submission, it cannot be denied that the 34-year-old Busquets played a crucial role as an unsung hero in Xavi's team, per Football Espana.
He brought much-needed balance and invaluable experience to a squad that seemed to pale in comparison to the Barcelona side that dominated Spain and Europe during the reigns of Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.
It therefore comes as no surprise that the Argentine prefers him as his La Liga Player of the Year ahead of top scorer Robert Lewandowski and Madrid's Vini.
“I could talk about Vinicius Jr., who had an impressive year. But I stay with Busquets," he told Stake.com, as quoted by Daily Post.
“In his last season at Barca, he did a great season. He represented Barca’s style at its best and was the one who gave the team the balance it needed to win the title.”
Since establishing himself as a key cog of Barca's first team, Busquets has amassed an impressive collection of more than 30 trophies. Among his accolades are seven Copa del Rey titles, seven Spanish Super Cups, eight La Liga crowns, and three UEFA Champions League titles.
