Kylian Mbappe paid a glowing tribute to Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Lionel Messi after the Frenchman scooped his fourth successive Ligue 1 Player of the Season prize at a ceremony on Sunday night.
Mbappe edged out Messi, Loïs Openda and Séko Fofana of RC Lens, and Lille striker Jonathan David to win the UNFP’s Ligue 1 Player of the Year award.
During his acceptance speech, the 24-year-old, who has scored an impressive 40 goals in 42 games across all competitions, thanked the mercurial Argentine playmaker for helping him attain his latest personal milestone, PSG Talk reports.
"Of course, I thank Leo [Messi], who has helped me a lot. It's a privilege to play for Paris Saint-Germain with players like that," he said, as quoted by MARCA.
He also extended his gratitude to the PSG staff, management, and others working behind the scenes.
"But also the people behind the scenes who allow us to be in the best possible conditions. This record is a pleasure. I've always wanted to win and leave my name in the history of the championship. I never thought I would win so quickly."
Aside from winning the best player prize in the French top flight, Mbappe could add another personal accolade to his stacked trophy cabinet if he manages to see off stern competition from Alexander Lacazette for the top scorer's award.
