While the Amakhosi’s players weren’t nominated in many categories, they managed to bag one coveted prize.

Midfielder Yusuf Maart won the Goal of the Season award for his strike against Orlando Pirates.

Maart’s stunning strike against Pirates

As noted by Times LIVE, Maart scored a goal from his own half to win the first Soweto Derby of the season for Chiefs. The goal was scored on October 29, 2022, and people already said it deserved the Goal of the Season award.

The goal also caught the attention of FIFA, who said it could be considered for the Puskas Award.

Maart thanks his teammates

As noted by iDiskiTimes, the midfielder has thanked his teammates after winning the award, saying it would not be possible without them.

“For that goal, I appreciate my teammates, for it’s a team sport, and I wouldn’t have scored it without them,” Maart said.

Maart’s victory has earned a lot of praise on social media, as Chiefs' fans celebrated winning something.

Yusuf Maart might be the biggest story on the African continent right now when it comes to football, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder scored from behind the halfway line to sink his former club Orlando Pirates at Soccer City.

The goal handed the Amakhosi a 1-0 over their arch-rivals.
