Leicester City have been relegated to the Championship, ending their nine-year stay in the Premier League.
The Foxes went down to the English second-tier despite their final day win over West Ham United, as their fate was out of their own hands going into the final day.
Dean Smith’s side needed Everton to drop some points to have any hopes of survival, but The Toffees recorded a crucial 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the other game played at the same time to secure their Premier League status.
As far as their game went, Leicester broke the deadlock through Harvey Barnes, who finished cooly from Kelechi Iheanacho’s pass.
Wout Faes made it 2-0 for the Foxes to send the home support into a wave of hope, with West Ham pulling a goal back through Pablo Fornals in the 79th minute.
In the other game which had relegation stakes, Sam Allardyce’s Leeds United succumbed to a crushing defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, their 21st of the 2022/23 campaign.
Harry Kane continued his prolific goal-scoring form with a neat finish, before Pedro Porro doubled the lead with a goal from a tight angle.
Jack Harrison gave Leeds fans slim hope as he pulled one back, but Kane struck once again to restore his side’s two-goal advantage.
Lucas Moura, who was playing his last game for Tottenham, then produced a piece of magic to score a stunning solo goal as Tottenham secured an 8th place finish on the log.
For Leeds, it is back to the drawing board as the club now faces an uncertain future amid rumours of a takeover by the San Francisco 49ers owners, according to The Athletic.
