Brandon Truter has named who he wants to see win the Premier Soccer League’s Coach of the Season award.
Jose Riveiro (Orlando Pirates), Rhulani Mokwena (Mamelodi Sundowns), and Gavin Hunt (SuperSport United) are all in the running for the award.
Mokwena led Sundowns to another DStv Premiership title and a CAF Champions League semi-final spot, while Hunt led SuperSport United to a third-place finish on his return.
Pirates’ Riveiro won two cups with the Buccaneers, and it’s why Truter wants to see him lift the trophy.
As noted by Soccer Laduma, Truter said he hopes Riveiro takes home the award.
"Well done to Pirates. Second cup for the coach, nominee for the Coach of the Season, and hopefully, he gets it this year. But well done, and congratulations to Pirates," Truter said after the Nedbank Cup final.
As noted by iDiskiTines, he also made a jibe that he wasn't nominated for the award.
“We into CAF, we’re playing CAF Confederations Cup, we have a major cup final next week. So much is happening, from 15th position until now, and we still don’t get talked about for Coach of the Year,” he said recently.
Riveiro’s Pirates win Nedbank Cup
Riveiro’s side beat Truter’s Sekhukhune United to claim their second trophy of the season. Pirates won the MTN8 earlier in the season and added the Nedbank Cup to their collection after a 2-1 win.

FootballPirates came from behind to win the game, but a penalty decision in the first half partly overshadowed their victory.
The Buccaneers were awarded a penalty when Victor Letsoalo was judged to have handled the ball in the box while on the ground. Some believed Thembinkosi Lorch played the ball deliberately against him.
Fans and pundits have been divided over the issue.
Pirates awarded penalty against Sekhukhune
The Nedbank Cup final will be remembered for one big moment; Orlando Pirates’ penalty, Sports Brief reported.
The Buccaneers trailed Sekhukhune United before the halftime break but were awarded a spot kick, which many felt was a bad call.
The penalty was awarded after Pirates’ man Thembinkosi Lorch tried to dribble his way into the box and appeared to kick the ball against the hand of a Sekhukhune player who was injured on the ground.
