Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has admitted he regrets playing for rivals Chelsea during his illustrious career.
The former defensive midfielder played for the Gunners between 1997 and 2000 before he made a switch to the La Liga with Barcelona.
However, he sealed a sensational return to the Premier League barely a year after he had left, joining the Blues in 2001.
According to The Sun, Petit chose Chelsea despite receiving calls from Sir Alex Ferguson, who wanted him to join Manchester United.
It is understood that Arsene Wenger had also reached out to him over a possible return to the Emirates.
Petit regrets Chelsea move
However, the Frenchman opted to join Chelsea instead, with the midfielder blaming the decision on his then-wife, who wanted to live in London instead of Manchester.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, Petit disclosed that he regretted making the Stamford Bridge move.
"Arsenal approached me but so did Manchester United. I spoke to Arsene. He really wanted me back, but I was honest with him. I said, 'I appreciate it and it's very tempting, but I didn't feel that you wanted me to stay when I signed for Barcelona a year ago'," Petit told FourFourTwo.
"I should have gone to Manchester United, because Sir Alex Ferguson called me twice. We had a very good conversation and it was tempting, but once again I listened to my wife," he added.
