According to The Sun, Petit chose Chelsea despite receiving calls from Sir Alex Ferguson, who wanted him to join Manchester United.

It is understood that Arsene Wenger had also reached out to him over a possible return to the Emirates.

Petit regrets Chelsea move

However, the Frenchman opted to join Chelsea instead, with the midfielder blaming the decision on his then-wife, who wanted to live in London instead of Manchester.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Petit disclosed that he regretted making the Stamford Bridge move.

"Arsenal approached me but so did Manchester United. I spoke to Arsene. He really wanted me back, but I was honest with him. I said, 'I appreciate it and it's very tempting, but I didn't feel that you wanted me to stay when I signed for Barcelona a year ago'," Petit told FourFourTwo.
"I should have gone to Manchester United, because Sir Alex Ferguson called me twice. We had a very good conversation and it was tempting, but once again I listened to my wife," he added.

Incredibly, Petit never won anything with the Blues during his four-year stay with the club.
