Football fans were left in a state of shock and disbelief as Borussia Dortmund collapsed on the final day of the Bundesliga title race.
With two points ahead of closest rivals Bayern Munich and a single game away from their first Bundesliga title in 11 years, Dortmund were in pole position to end their trophy drought, but the Yellow and Blacks were left writhing in pain after 90 minutes.
Two first-half goals from Hanche-Olsen and Karim Onisiwo set the tone for Mainz to spoil Dortmund's party. Despite a resurgence in the second half which resulted in two late goals in the last 20 minutes, Edin Terzic's men failed to complete the comeback as Mainz held on for a 2-2 draw.
The result was compounded by Bayern's dramatic victory over FC Koln, which meant Dortmund surrendered their lead at the top of the table to the Bavarians on the final day of action.
The picturesque end to the 2022-23 season in the German top flight left fans devastated for Dortmund, and they took to social media to express their pain.
