The player is going to be out of contract with PSG in 2024 and right now, he does not seem to be close to signing an extension, despite being their best player and the centre of their project.

Reactions have been swift in France, with various comments on what Mbappe might do if he does not decide to extend his contract.

If he doesn't exercise the extension, he could leave for free next season, something that PSG won't even want to imagine.

RMC journalist Daniel Riolo commented: "I love Kylian Mbappe, but if he leaves, there are other players, there are many teams winning the Champions League without Kylian Mbappe.

"Many teams are doing well without him. Many players can replace him."

Riolo considers that, "He is a player that you have to transfer, that obsession can lead you to lose him for free and it would be a total aberration."

The French journalist also disagrees with the power that Mbappe has over the team:

"I'm not going to blame Mbappe for the things that the managers have done. Today he is the king, he thinks he is LeBron James, he let himself go.

"He chose a sporting director and the sporting director chose a coach."
