- Haaland thought he had earned a winner deep in the second half, but his goal was ruled out by the VAR
Manchester City hotshot, Erling Haaland continued his impressive Premier League form on Wednesday night, May 24, as his side battled Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
Despite the match being of little significance for City, Pep Guardiola still found the need to name a strong team for the EPL cracker.
According to The Guardian, the tie ended in a 1-1 draw, with Phil Foden and Julio Enciso finding the back of the net for either side.
Haaland was also on target for the champions in what should have been the winner but saw his goal chalked off after a VAR review.
Foden opened the scoring for the visitors in the 25th minute of the clash before Enciso restored parity in the 38th minute with what would potentially be a goal-of-the-season contender.
Haaland equals Thierry Henry's record
Despite Haaland's goal being ruled out, it was not all gloom and doom for the Norwegian star, whose contribution in the match saw him equal a record held by Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry.
The former Borussia Dortmund ace was responsible for City's opener, scored by Foden as he set up the Englishman for the goal.
According to Squawka, this was Haaland's 44th goal involvement in the Premier League, having previously scored 36 goals and bagged eight assists.
The tally is enough for him to match Henry's, with the former Arsenal star setting the record during the 2002/03 campaign.
At the time, the Frenchman scored 24 goals and bagged an incredible 20 assists.
Haaland has an opportunity to break that record and set his own, with City still yet to play two matches.
