Former Ghana and Bayern Munich defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour has praised World Cup winner, Lothar Matthaus for buying a stake in Premier League side Accra Lions.
Kuffour, who played alongside Matthaus during his early days in the Bundesliga, is friends with the German legend and believes he made the right decision by investing in Ghana.
Matthaus was in Accra on Tuesday for the announcement of his involvement in the Ghanaian top-flight league.
“I feel blessed to know [Lothar Matthaus] as a person and also for him to come to Ghana,” he told Joy Sports.
“There are so many opportunities that they could go to any other country [but] they chose Ghana. That tells you there is something here that we have to take care of.”
Meanwhile, the ex-Germany international disclosed that he was impressed by the project at Accra Lions.
“What is important for me is performance and improvement from the players," he said as he explained his decision for invest in the club, as reported by GhanaWeb.
“When we come first, I am happy but this is not why I am investing money in Accra Lions. I like the style of the club and how they work with young players because I think you have to start early to make the player better."
Accra Lions sit seventh in the Ghana Premier League, with three games remaining.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former World Player of the Year and Germany World Cup winner, Lothar Matthaus has become a part-owner of Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions.
