  • Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has opened up on the club's recent struggles
  • The World Cup winner believes the club should not have sacked Julian Nagelsmann
  • Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel replaced Nagelsmann about two months ago

World Cup winner and former Player of the Year, Lothar Matthaus has blamed Bayern Munich's recent woes on the club's poor decisions.

Earlier this year, the German giants fired Julian Nagelsmann and replaced him with ex-Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel.

The decision seems to have backfired as Bayern could end the season without silverware, having been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal.

The Bavarian's defeat to RB Liepzig last weekend could see Borussia Dortmund wrest the title away from the champions.

"Bayern Munich have made a couple of mistakes. On the field, outside the field, wrong decisions and I still don't understand why they had to change the coach. Sure, they were not doing excellent but in the Champions League, they had eight wins," Matthaus told Joy Sports.

The Bayern legend mentioned playing his ex-club playing Inter Milan - who are in the final of the UEFA Champions League - as well as Barcelona with Robert Lewandowski and Paris Saint-Germain with Lionel Messi.

"Of course, Nagelsmann is a young coach and can make a mistake but he needs support from the CEO of the club and the Sports Director of the club. And this I think was the biggest mistake of Bayern Munich two months ago."

Matthaus was unveiled as the new partner of Ghana Premier League side, Accra Lions on Tuesday in the west African country, as reported by DW.
