FootballBetter Than Messi, Haaland? Kylian Mbappe Explains Why He Is the “Best Player” in the World
- Kylian Mbappe believes he is currently the best player in the world
- The 24-year-old is among the favourites, including Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland, to win the 2023 Ballon d'Or Gong
- He has a staggering 40 goals in 41 matches for PSG across all competitions this season and is on the brink of winning his fifth successive Ligue 1 top scorer's prize
Kylian Mbappe has rehashed his intentions to assume the throne of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo by insisting he is the "best footballer" on the planet currently.
Mbappe has been tipped by many to replace Messi and Ronaldo, who have won a combined 12 Ballon d'Ors, as the superstar duo enter the twilight of their glistening careers.
Names such as Erling Haaland and Vinicius Jr have also been mooted as candidates to contend with Mbappe for the accolade of "best player" in the near future. However, the Frenchman believes he is second to none from his personal perspective.
"In my head, I always tell myself that I am the best because that way, you don't set limits, and you try to give the best version of yourself," he said as quoted by El Futbolero.
His viewpoint and consequent action on the pitch come across as egoistic. Nonetheless, the 24-year-old believes it spurs him on as an individual.
"People don't understand the ego, but when you're not well, there is no one who is going to approach you to tell you that you are capable.
"You are alone. You have to convince yourself that you can do great things," he ended.
He is in pole position to win his fifth successive Ligue 1 top scorer's prize this season, leading the chart with 28 goals, two ahead of closest rival Alexander Lacazette, according to Transfermarkt.
