Napoli are braced for the possible departure of title-winning manager, Luciano Spalletti, and have shortlisted a wide range of managerial options to replace him.
The Italian manager guided the Partenopei to their first Serie A title since the 1989/90 season, spearheaded by late Argentina legend Diego Maradona.
He is now set to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires despite club president Aurelio De Laurentiis trying to trigger a one-year extension in the contract unilaterally.
Sky Italia reports that the former Zenit St. Petersburg manager will go on a one-year sabbatical and will only return to manage in the summer of 2024 despite having options.
Enrique considered for Napoli job
De Laurentiis is still optimistic he can convince the 64-year-old to stay next season, but La Repubblica reports that the club have already drawn up a list of possible replacements.
Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who has been unemployed since he stepped down from the Spain national team after the World Cup in Qatar is high on the list.
Other managers linked to Napoli
Enrique, who was overlooked for the Chelsea job and is also not in the running for the Tottenham job, is not the only manager on De Laurentiis’ list.
According to Di Marzio, tactical considerations for retaining the 4-3-3 shape are why some of the options are considered. Thiago Motta, Gian Piero Gasperini and Vincenzo Italiano are Italians considered.
Former manager Rafa Benitez, Julian Nagelsmann and former River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo are foreign alternatives considered.
