  • Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions for the seventh time yesterday
  • It was the fifth title win under Pep Guardiola since he took over at the club in 2016
  • Sergio Aguero scored a last-minute winner the first time Man City won the title in 2011/12

Manchester City were confirmed Premier League champions on Saturday after Nottingham Forest stunned Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground.

It was the fifth Premier League title for Pep Guardiola, the seventh for City, and the ninth English top flight title for the club.

Their first came in the 2011/12 season under Roberto Mancini - the famous Aguerooooo moment.

Sports Brief looks at the starting 11 that day, which primarily lined up in a 4-3-3 formation and where they are now.

GK - Joe Hart

The English goalkeeper was in goal against Queens Park Rangers in the famous win. He was sent out of the club by Guardiola. He plays for Celtic, having played for Torino, West Ham, Burnley, and Tottenham.

RB - Pablo Zabaleta

Pep also cleared the Argentine out. He spent three years at West Ham before announcing his retirement in 2020. According to Daily Star, he is the assistant manager of the Albanian national team.

CBs - Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott

The Belgian was City’s captain before his departure in 2019. He has since retired and is the manager of Burnley, who he helped gain promotion to the EPL after one season in the Championship, as reported by Mirror UK.

Lescott has worked as a pundit since retirement and attended the Etihad Stadium yesterday when his former club took on Chelsea.

LB - Gael Clichy

A famous Arsenal Invincibles squad member was one of the victims of Guardiola’s clear-out. He is still an active professional at 37 and plays for Servette in the Swiss top flight.

MFs - Barry, Nasri, Toure

Gareth Barry now appears as a pundit and also as a cricketer. Samir Nasri has been off the radar and only recently appeared at a charity match for Marseille in 2020, in which he looked overweight and had a potbelly.

Yaya Toure is arguably one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. The four-time African footballer of the year is an academy coach at Tottenham Hotspur.

Attack - Silva, Aguero, Tevez

Mancini’s preferred front three during that season was David Silva and the Argentine duo of Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero, who scored the goal that gave City the title in the game’s dying seconds.

The Spaniard remains active at Real Sociedad, while Tevez last managed Rosario Central in Argentina. Aguero retired months into his time at Barcelona due to a heart condition.

Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko are two other members of the squad who are still active. Mario is in the lower league in Italy, while the Bosnian will face City in the Champions League final with Inter on June 10.

Four Odegaard alternatives Arsenal considered

Sports Brief previously analysed the four alternatives to Martin Odegaard Arsenal considered before signing the Norwegian on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid.

The list includes James Maddison, Houssem Aouar, Isco, and Bernardo Silva, with only the Portuguese on track with his career and the Spaniard currently without a club.
