Vinicius Junior’s latest ordeal with racism in La Liga has got huge personalities in football reacting, with FIFA president, Gianni Infantino the latest to back the Real Madrid forward.
The Brazilian suffered racist chants from some Valencia supporters during a La Liga clash against Real Madrid on Sunday, with the centre referee temporarily halting the game.
According to 90MIN, Infantino has now condemned the racist abuse against Vini and called for FIFA’s three-step process to be implemented in subsequent scenarios.
"Full solidarity to Vinicius. There is no place for racism in football or in society, and FIFA stands by all players who have found themselves in such a situation. That is why the three-step process exists in FIFA competitions and it is recommended at all levels of football."
Vinicius has reacted to being racially attacked on social media, slamming the authorities in Spain for not doing enough to curb such dastardly behaviour in the league.
FIFA’s three-step process for racism
FIFA’s three-step process provides guidelines for whenever there is a racist incident during a football match:
Firstly, the match official is allowed to stop the match and make an announcement about the racism incident.
Secondly, players must leave the pitch and an announcement made that if the attacks continue, the match will be suspended, Reuters reports.
Thirdly, if the racial incidents continue, match will stop and the three points will be awarded to the away team.
Ronaldo sends message to Vinicius
Earlier, Sports Brief reported Brazil legend, Ronaldo showed Vinicius Junior his support after the Brazilian was subjected to racism in a La Liga game against Valencia.
The unfortunate incident took place at the Mestalla Stadium on Sunday, with the Real Madrid winger cruelly targeted by chants from sections of the home crowd.
Among the legends who came forth to show support towards Vinicius after the incident was Ronaldo, who posted on social media in support of his fellow countryman.
