  • Jose Peseiro's future as the Super Eagles coach is hanging in the air
  • The Nigerian Football Federation chiefs are expected to make a decision soon
  • Former Juventus and Chelsea player Adrian Mutu has also been linked with the Super Eagles

Former Chelsea and Juventus star Adrian Mutu is reportedly set to meet with the Nigerian Football Federation chiefs over talks for him to likely replace Jose Peseiro as the next Super Eagles coach.

Peseiro's contract as the Super Eagles gaffer has expired and the Portuguese is yet to be told on what next to do by those in charge of soccer in the West African nation.

There have been calls from some former Nigerian internationals for NFF not to retain Jose Peseiro, but to hire a new coach.

Speculation also has it that Nigerian coach Salisu Yusuf is also in the race to become the head coach of the Super Eagles.

According to the report on Pulse, Nigerian Football chiefs would meet with Mutu's representatives on the possibility to get him hired.

Where is Mutu currently working?

Mutu has been at the helm of six-time Romanian champions Rapid Bucuresti, since March 2022.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will play their final two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sierra Leone in June, and Sao Tome and Principe in September.

Udeze speaks about Jose Peseiro

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former Super Eagles defender, Ifeanyi Udeze stated emphatically that Jose Peseiro has nothing to offer, stressing that the Nigerian Football Federation chiefs should not renew his contract.

Peseiro was appointed as the Super Eagles coach in May 2022. The Portuguese coach replaced Austin Eguavoen, who failed to help Nigeria qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The former Venezuela gaffer has, however, been struggling as coach of the three-time African champions, which has raised concerns from Nigerian fans.

Udeze, who now works as a pundit, explained that the NFF leaders should hire another coach for the Super Eagles.

“When you come to coach a team like the Eagles and from the first day you are giving us the impression that you will win the Nations Cup and also qualify us for the World Cup, but things are looking different, it seems somehow to me.''
