Jose Mourinho pulled off another signature performance as AS Roma qualified for the Europa League semi-final on May 18.

Roma frustrated Bayer Leverkusen in Germany to draw the second leg 0-0 and qualify on an aggregate score of 1-0.

This will be the Giallorossi's second European final in successive years, after they reached the final of the inaugural Conference League last season, where they beat Feyenoord in the final.

At the Bay Arena on Thursday night, it was a vintage Mourinho performance. His side had zero shots on target as they defended resolutely for the entire 90 minutes.

There were also rampant cases of time-wasting, with the Roma players going down at intervals, much to the frustration of their opponents.

Mourinho's tactics called out

Leverkusen's midfielder Kerem Demirbay lashed out at Mourinho's tactics after the game.

"It’s a shame that in a semi-final at such a high level that this type of play can be rewarded. They made things very ugly at the end," he said, as quoted by Metro Sports.

The experienced Portuguese coach could not care less, as he qualified for his sixth European final. He has won the previous five.

He will face daunting opposition to keep his record going when he faces Sevilla in the final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on May 31, as captured by UEFA. The Spanish side are serial winners of this trophy, having won it a record 6 times.

They saw off Juventus with an aggregate score of 3-2 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Roma's injuries pile up

Sports Brief has also reported that Mourinho will have more to worry about going into the season's final games, after his team’s injury list grew in the first half of the game against Bayer Leverkusen.

AS Roma faced a crucial UEFA Europa League semi-final second-leg tie against the German side, aware that a draw would be enough to reach the final, and did just that.

Leonardo Spinazzola was struggling with what appeared to be a muscular injury in his right thigh, and was replaced by Nicola Zalewski in the 34th minute.
