According to Mundo Deportivo, either Alvarez or Martinez will be the 10th player in history to win the FIFA World Cup and the European Cup in the same season.

Both forwards played in Argentina's 2022 World Cup victory in Qatar, where Lionel Scaloni's team defeated France in the final via a penalty shootout.

Manchester City will aim to win the Champions League for the first time in the club's history when they tackle three-time winners, Inter Milan in the final on June 10 in Istanbul, Turkey.

World Cup and UCL winners

Germans Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner, Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck, Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Uli Hoeness, and Jupp Kapelmann were the first set of players to win both the World Cup and Champions League in 1974, Mundo Deportivo reports.

Christian Karembeu achieved the double in 1998 after victories with France and Real Madrid respectively, while Roberto Carlos got his in 2002 with Brazil and Real Madrid again.

Sami Khedira and Raphael Varane are the last two to win the double after Champions League success with Real Madrid in 2014 and 2018, and World Cup victories with Germany and France.

Could Inter beat Man City?

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that a fan has come up with a bizarre theory on why Inter Milan will beat Man City in this season's Champions League final.

The two European league heavyweights are scheduled to face off in the final of the tournament after they booked their respective places in the UCL final.

Inter sealed qualification on Tuesday night after beating rivals, AC Milan 3-0 on aggregate while Man City beat Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate in the other.
