Giandomenico Costi, who once worked as a collaborator with Napoli’s director of football, Cristiano Giuntoli, revealed how the Serie A champions were able to beat Liverpool to the signing of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has been fantastic this season for Napoli, helping them to win the Serie A title and leading the goal-scoring chart with 23 goals.

It has now been revealed that Premier League side, Liverpool were actually interested in signing Osimhen from Lille, as manager, Jurgen Klopp was a fan of the Super Eagles striker.

According to the reports by Soccernet and Daily Post, Costi explained that Napoli locked Osimhen in a hotel room for three days to prevent him from joining the Reds.

Liverpool tried all they could to get him, but the Italian champion's directors still beat them to his signature.

Costi on Napoli keeping Osimhen

"The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece... Giuntoli knew Liverpool were interested, and Jurgen Klopp had made his move, but Cristiano spoke to Osimhen in the hotel for three days until he convinced him to accept Napoli."

Meanwhile, Napoli will face a big battle to keep Osimhen this summer, as many clubs are ready to sign him.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported how Italian forward, Mario Balotelli met up with Osimhen, following the Nigerian striker's league triumph with Napoli.

The Super Eagles star led Gli Azzurri to their first league title in 33 years, after scoring 23 goals in Serie A this season.

Osimhen had already spoken to the former Inter Milan striker via Instagram the day the title was won. The duo finally met in Italy, after Balotelli returned home to watch the UEFA Champions League semi-final clash between his former clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
