Fresh details have emerged on how Cristiano Ronaldo came close to joining Arsenal during the January transfer window before his switch to Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo became a free agent in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup after Manchester United terminated his contract prematurely.
According to Goal, United decided to cut ties with the veteran striker just after he had an explosive interview with British journalist, Piers Morgan.
At the time, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner openly criticised the leadership of Man United, aiming a dig at Erik ten Hag, who he accused of disrespecting him.
United's decision to terminate Ronaldo's deal plunged the footballer's future into a cloud of uncertainty before Al-Nassr came calling with a mega deal.
Ronaldo 'close to Arsenal move'
However, it has now emerged the Portuguese international was reportedly close to sealing a stunning move to Arsenal before he moved to Saudi Arabia.
This is according to Gunners fan, Morgan, who recently took to social media claiming the Real Madrid icon was keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The controversial journalist went on to boldly claim the Gunners would have actually won the Premier League this season had they landed Ronaldo in January.
"Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season - as he was keen to do btw - we would have won the League," Morgan tweeted.
"He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters," he added.
