Barcelona’s La Liga title celebrations were marred by shocking scenes, as a group of Espanyol fans chased La Blaugrana players off the pitch.
The Catalan giants won the league title for the first time since 2019, thrashing Espanyol 4-2 on Sunday at their home stadium, but things turned ugly shortly after the full-time whistle.
As Xavi and his men danced in a circle in the middle of the pitch, some irate Espanyol supporters invaded the field in an effort to confront the winning team, Talk Sports reported.
In a video shared on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the Barca stars had to sprint off down the tunnel while stewards and police set about apprehending the unruly fans.

Even worse, chairs and bottles were thrown at the police and members of local security, who were guarding the tunnel that links the pitch with the locker rooms.
With Sunday's loss, Espanyol's prospects of being demoted from La Liga this year have intensified.
The result also means Barcelona have an unassailable 14-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid at the top of the table, with four matches left to play.
By winning the championship in the backyard of their local rivals, Barca experienced what Arsenal had in their last Premier League title win, being confirmed as champions with a draw against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
Xavi's comments on Espanyol incident
Speaking about the post-match carnage, Barcelona coach, Xavi told Movistar:
“In the end, the celebration is normal, but there comes a point when we are not at home. It was respectful to leave.”
