Mother's Day is a day often preserved for mothers worldwide or mother figures to get the recognition they deserve. There is no telling the importance mothers play in the upbringing of children and in many households worldwide.

In many countries, it is marked on the second Sunday of the month of May, while in countries like Mexico, it is marked on May 10th, with Thailand celebrating it on August 12.

Many footballers have not shied away from documenting the key roles their mothers have played in their careers. Achraf Hakimi lighted up the world with images of his mother, Saida Mouth, kissing him at the Qatar World Cup last year.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner sadly lost his father when he was just 20 years which means his old man missed out on most of his important achievements.

As the Sun reports, his mother, Maria Dolores, contemplated aborting Ronaldo's pregnancy due to poverty. At 14 years of age, she allowed Ronaldo to quit school to focus on his football career and what a decision that turned out to be.

She also ensured that the Portuguese icon underwent surgery after a heart condition threatened to curtail his fledgling football dream.

2. Lionel Messi

Anywhere there is Ronaldo, you can always bet his arch-rival will follow. You must have seen her(Messi's mother) alongside Messi's wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, at the FIFA World Cup last year.

Messi's father might be the face of his success due to the role he plays as his agent, but his mother, Celia, has been around for a long time as well.

Messi developed an illness at a young age that restricted his growth. Barcelona came to the rescue and offered to offset the medical bill, in turn enrolling the talented young Argentine.

The family made the huge decision to move to Spain to stay close to their son.

3. Marcus Rashford

The Manchester United star has openly talked about how his mother, Melanie, sacrificed herself to ensure that he achieved his dreams.

Melanie raised Rashford and four of his siblings single-handedly on minimum wages.

"She lived the struggle. That is why it means the world to me that she is happy now and she is right next to me with everything that I do. She believes as strongly as I do that things need to change," said Rashford, as quoted by MEN.

4. Eden Hazard

He might be struggling in his career right now, but Hazard remains one of the most talented players the world has ever seen.

All this was thanks to a foundation set at home with his mother, Carine, a professional striker during her days. Carine played until she was three months pregnant with Hazard.

"I was in her stomach when she was playing. She was three months pregnant. I take after my mum as a player. My dad played at the back, chilled out, calm on the ball. My mum was a striker. I never watched Mum play but I can remember going to see my dad play. Actually, I like to think that I am a mix of the best of them," Hazard previously mentioned as quoted by the Independent.

Talent can be transmitted genetically, guys.

5. Paul Pogba

Depending on who you ask, Pogba is one of the most technically-gifted players of his generation. His attitude and commitment have often been questioned but on his day, he is unplayable.

The Pogba family hit headlines last year when the elder son, Mathias Pogba, claimed that Pogba used witchcraft on Kylian Mbappe.

Those disturbing allegations notwithstanding, Yeo Moriba, their mother, raised three children with barely any decent earnings in Paris. Luckily, all three boys became professional footballers and it was Pogba's career that hit through the roof.

"Yeo wanted the very best for all of them from day one, but this was nothing to do with money. She absolutely adored her boys and didn’t care who knew it.
"Day-to-day life could be a struggle, but she knew all the boys were going places. If anybody did anything to upset them or hold them back, then Yeo did not care about upsetting anyone or losing money. She just wanted her boys to be happy," a source told Tribuna.

Pogba occasionally shares hilarious videos of him teasing his mother.
