  • There has always been concerns about where the Dutchman's loyalty lies between United and Arsenal
  • While Van Persie spent more years at the Emirates, it was after his move to Man United he got to taste Premier League glory

Former Netherlands international Robin van Persie has twice made it clear who he supports between Manchester United and Arsenal.

Van Persie played for the two Premier League rivals during his illustrious career in the English top flight, which spanned more than a decade.

The 39-year-old moved to the Premier League in 2004 after he was signed by Arsenal from Dutch side Feyenoord.

The transfer did not go down well with the Arsenal fanbase, with a number of Gunners' fans accusing the Dutchman of betrayal.

While the former striker enjoyed significant success with Arsenal, his most momentous time in the EPL came when he joined United as he finally lifted the Premier League title with the Red Devils under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Which club does RvP prefer?

Van Persie has never openly declared who he prefers between Arsenal and Manchester United but has previously made clear his choice.

According to The Mirror, the ex-Feyenoord ace has on two occasions shown a preference for Man United over the Gunners.

Back in 2020, Arsenal had just stunned the Red Devils 2-0 on New Year's Day while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge when Van Persie appeared angry with the result while appearing on BT Sport as a pundit.

"When I listen to Ole, he sounds like a really nice guy. I would like to see him a bit more mean at times, just be angry. I see him smiling now after a game like that. This is not the moment to smile," the former striker was quoted saying.

In 2021, Van Persie once again proved he is more United than Arsenal when he named four Red Devils players in a list of the best players he ever shared a pitch with, mentioning only two Gunners.

He told BBC Sport:

"So difficult to name one. I would go for Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy."

RvP backs Arsenal to win EPL

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Robin van Persie has backed former side Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have emerged as firm favourites to be crowned the champions after an incredible run of form under Mikel Arteta.

Van Persie, who spent eight years at the Emirates Stadium, has insisted he would be happy to see Arsenal secure the crown.

The former Dutch forward is not in good books with Arsenal fans after his controversial summer move to rivals Man United in 2012, where he went on to win the Premier League title.

However, the legendary striker has appeared to suggest that there is no bad blood between him and the Gunners, with the 39-year-old making clear his feelings about his former side's potential title triumph.
