Iconic Italian outfit Sampdoria will play next season in the Serie B as their relegation was confirmed on Monday, May 8 following defeat to Udinese.
The 1991 Scudetto winners were relegated with four matches of the campaign to spare as the Udinese defeat summed up what has been a miserable season for them.
Udinese, who are high-flying this season, found the win courtesy of goals from Roberto Pereyra and Adam Masina to condemn Sampdoria, who made it to the European Cup final in 1992, to the second tier of Italian football.

Sampdoria have been regulars in the Serie A since the 2012-13 season, spending 11 straight years in the top flight.
But in recent years, the club has experienced a sensational decline, which has mainly to do with financial issues.
Inter Milan legend Dejan Stankovic, who is Sampdoria manager, had a despairing message after defeat to Udinese left them bottom of Serie A with 17 points, 13 points off Hellas Verona in 17th.
"I feel enormous disappointment and sadness. We tried and we gave everything we had," Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic told DAZN.
"I know that every fan does not want to accept this day, but we fought on the field and they were by our side always. This club deserves more, because it is beautiful inside and out."
Stankovic came into the club in October 2022 after the dismissal of Marco Giampaolo, but failed to turn the team’s fortunes around.
He came in with Sampdoria only collecting 2 points from their opening eight games, but has only managed to collect 15 points from 26 games, according to WhoScored.com
