Awoniyi Discloses His Mum’s Prediction of Him Netting a Brace Against Southampton

Taiwo Awoniyi has stated emphatically that his target is to ensure his club, Nottingham Forest remains in the Premier League after the end of the season, with only three games to go.

This term has been so challenging for Awoniyi and his teammates in the Premier League, with their status in the English top flight to be decided by the results from their remaining matches.

The Nigerian striker was the star on Monday night, May 8, netting a brace for Forest in their hard-fought 4-3 win against visiting Southampton, which has taken them out of the bottom four.

The former Liverpool player scored his first goal in the 18th minute before he got his brace three minutes later in what was an explosive encounter.

Southampton fought hard in the match, but all their efforts to get a point were futile.

Speaking exclusively to Sports Brief after the win, Awoniyi explained that before the game, his mother had correctly predicted him netting two goals.

Awoniyi reveals mother's EPL prediction

"I must confess that I was happy netting a brace and the important thing was that the effort helped my team, and we will have to continue fighting because we must not [be relegated]. We must remain in the Premier League," the striker said.
"Before the game, my mum told me I would score two goals, and I must give her a gift for the correct prediction. She has always been there for me."

Nottingham face some tough games against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Crystal Palace.

Awoniyi completes university degree

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported on Nigerian international, Awoniyi completing his degree program at the Buckinghamshire New University in Wycombe, the UK.

The Nottingham Forest striker bagged a degree in Business Management a few days after his Super Eagles teammate, Wilfred Ndidi also completed his studies.
