FootballMauricio Pochettino Identifies 3 Key Players He Wants to Sign Ahead of Chelsea Appointment
- Mauricio Pochettino has identified three key positions he wants to be strengthened at Chelsea
- It is widely expected he will be appointed as the first permanent coach since Graham Potter
- However, Frank Lampard will oversee the rest of the season until Pochettino officially takes over
Even before he is confirmed as the next Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly wasting no time in hitting the ground running as he seeks to identify the weaknesses in the current side.
Chelsea are expected to finalise the appointment of the Argentine soon as their new permanent head coach. Pochettino will walk into a bloated team that has been stricken by poor performances this season.
Football London reports that Pochettino will require a mass exodus of players to clean the proverbial slate at Chelsea. There have been reports that some players have had to change in the corridors after the club brought in eight new players in January alone.
Players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech, and Cristian Pulisc could make way as the rebuild process begins in West London.

Pochettino's plans for Chelsea
But even as a number of players leave, Metro UK reports that Pochettino will require three new players to form the basis of what he wants to achieve at Stamford Bridge.
The report further adds the former Paris Saint-Germain manager is keen on signing a new goalkeeper, a central midfielder, and a striker.
No specific names have been given just yet, but it is said Pochettino wants players with Premier League experience. His pursuit for a goalkeeper spells doom for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy - the latter who has barely played this season.
The idea of a central midfielder is presumably someone who can partner with January's acquisition, Enzo Fernandez. The striking department is self-explanatory, with Chelsea out of luck in that area since the departure of Diego Costa.

Pochettino: What Chelsea can expect from
Poch's lack of trophies during his first spell with Tottenham has always been a consideration when judging his suitability to manage a top club.
However, as Sports Brief previously reported, Pochettino might be Chelsea's solution to a team which has had many questions asked of it this season.
He can be relied upon to being stability to Stamford Bridge, provide direction, and reign in player power - something Potter's tenure certainly lacked.
